Read to Raise Challenge

Dear Tucker Families,

The Tucker PTO is excited to announce the return of the Read to Raise Challenge this March!   This year we are challenging our school community to read 400,000 minutes and raise $40,000 from March 17-31. 100% of funds from the readathon will support the operating budget of the Tucker PTO and its many initiatives and programs that support our students and staff.  Prizes will be awarded to students, classes, and grades for the most minutes read. New this year, students and teachers can access Beanstack through their MPS Clever accounts, allowing easier access at home and school.

While our students are busy reading, we ask our community to get busy fundraising! We want to offer even more support and opportunities to our teachers and students this upcoming year and the readathon will help us do that. Caregivers can fundraise under a student’s account independently at any time, regardless of how many minutes are logged. Donations are not tied to minutes read. With the help of all Tucker families, friends, and extended networks, we’ll be able to achieve our target of $40,000.00. Please give generously and spread the word! When you and your student log into Beanstack through the app or website, you'll be able to see and share their donation page with your family and friends. Donors can even leave messages of encouragement for your student(s).

So, what should I do TODAY?

  1. Log in to Beanstack at https://miltontucker.beanstack.com OR download the Beanstack app.

  2. Login via your student's Clever account.  (The Clever username and password is the same as your child’s MPS Google account.) If you are not familiar with this, don’t worry, your student will know how to login to Clever and can help.

Their Clever username is their MPS-issued Google email, formatted as firstname.lastname.####@miltonps.org with #### representing their four digit projected year of graduation.

For example, a sample fifth grade student would be: john.doe.2032@miltonps.org

Their Clever password is an MPS-issued 8-digit student ID number that is also used to unlock school Chromebooks. You may not know it but your Tucker student will!

What do I do on March 17th?

Begin logging minutes read at home and share your child’s fundraising page widely with family and friends. The PTO currently fills many gaps between the school budget and the needs of students and staff.  This includes funds for all field trip buses and some field trip expenses, in school assemblies, guest speakers, extracurricular programming, classroom supplies, support to teachers and staff, equipment, and field days.  Your generous support of Read to Raise will ensure that the PTO can continue to fund these and more in the coming year.

What kind of reading counts?

YES - books, magazines, newspapers, audiobooks (with ACTIVE listening), independent in-school reading (recess/lunch, choice time, waiting for the bus/car)

NO - TV/movie/video game captions, audiobooks (with PASSIVE listening for background noise or a sleep aid), words on packaging, or teacher-led lessons (teachers will log whole class minutes)

Make sure to save the date for the following events during Read to Raise:

March 17-18th: Book Swap (during library time)

Friday, March 21st: Dress like your favorite book character

Thursday, March 27th: Tucker’s Literacy Night (6–8 pm)
