Room Representative Role – Fun, Friendly, and Flexible!
Being a Room Rep is a great way to stay connected, support your child’s classroom, and help other families get involved—all without needing to be in the classroom in person. Here’s what it involves:
Liaison Extraordinaire: Serve as the link between the PTO and your child’s classroom. This might include sending emails or doing informal outreach to share upcoming school-wide events or request volunteers for PTO activities.
Email List Keeper: Maintain the class email distribution list, which will be provided by your teacher or a PTO representative.
Class Contact Coordinator: Develop a class list with students’ and parents’ names, emails, and phone numbers. Invite parents to share their contact info so everyone can stay connected.
UNITY Project Coordinator: Help organize parent-led activities like the UNITY Project (formerly Meet the Artists and Reading About Diversity). These fun lessons are designed for parents to support from home or on their own schedule. Check the UNITY Project FAQ for tips on how to get involved.
Classroom Activity Support: Coordinate other educational or fun activities, such as Math Centers or classroom celebrations—again, you don’t have to do this in person if you prefer.
Team Player: Work with your co-Room Rep(s) to divvy up responsibilities and keep things running smoothly.
PTO Point Person: Be a friendly resource for other parents with questions about PTO events or activities, connecting them to the right information.
Supply Communicator: Check in with your teacher periodically about classroom needs (Kleenex, markers, etc.) and let parents know how they can help.
Room Reps make a big impact with a little bit of organization, communication, and heart—and remember, you don’t have to be in the classroom to do it!
