What is Fifth Grade Committee?
Being a 5th grader is a 'big deal' for Tucker students. It's a status that they've worked hard to achieve that comes with 'special' privileges and events that they've looked forward to since Kindergarten. The Fifth Grade Committee is a committee under the umbrella of the PTO, by which a group of 5th grade parents volunteer to work together with the school staff to ensure that every graduating student has an extra special 5th grade experience during their last year at Tucker.
What are some of the special 5th grade programs and events?
The teachers, staff and 5th Grade Committee plan fun events for the 5th graders throughout the year. Some can include (and are not limited to) The Step-Up Ceremony, 5th grade T-Shirts, Yearbook, Gift packs for students and a Class Gift to Tucker. Parent volunteers are also needed to help chaperone different events and take photos for the yearbook. The kids look forward to these events as part of becoming official 5th graders at Tucker. We are also looking to add other exciting programs and activities this year.
What else does the 5th Grade Committee do?
One of the biggest undertakings of the 5th Grade Committee is the creation of the Yearbook. This involves collaboration between parents, teachers and volunteers. Some of the responsibilities include collecting, organizing and selecting photos submitted by parents, obtaining and organizing information for each student page, designing and creating layouts for the book, as well as working with the 5th grade teachers to publish content submitted by the students. The finished product is a professionally published yearbook for students and families to cherish for years to come.
The Fifth Grade Committee is also responsible for creating a custom designed t-shirt for the 5th grade students and for putting together gift packs for students.
Fundraising
Being a 5th grader means the last year of elementary school and to mark the end of this chapter, our 5th graders will have new and exclusive opportunities. The 5th Grade Committee is responsible for holding many fundraisers throughout the school year to help make all the events and various items financially manageable. The 5th Grade Committee covers the cost of these events and activities through fundraising.
Would you like to get involved?
The success of the 5th Grade Committee is driven primarily by parent volunteers. We understand that not everyone will be able to or is interested in being a part of the committee, however, we're hoping that those that are, will volunteer as little or as much time as possible. We will be holding meetings periodically and will be creating sub-committees to oversee the various initiatives (i.e., yearbook, t-shirts, stepping up ceremony, etc).
